These are my favorite Records of this year! They may be completely different than most Best Of Lists for this year. Sometimes I feel like I live on a different planet. I seriously hope you give these a spin if you missed em!
1. Love As Laughter’s Holy
We play this record daily. It’s a well written, psychedelic feel good album. Did people seriously overlook this gem? I cannot believe that this isn’t on everyones top ten lists. Its never too late to pick it up now!
2. AC/DC’s Black Ice
I have listened to this album around 90 times now. It holds up as one of the best, most diverse AC/DC Records! Best Brian Johnson AC/DC since Back In Black.
3. Buffalo Killers’ Let It Ride
Wow! What a record- This is a PERFECT recording if you love southern classic psychedelic rock. I highly recommend buying this album immediately!
4. Mudhoney’s The Lucky Ones
Great Mudhoney Record. This one took a good week to grow on me but the songs are classic and they hold up great in a Live setting. Mudhoney is just one of the greatest bands of all time. It blows my mind that they aren’t selling out MSG next to Pearl Jam and that sooo many people still don’t know who they are.
5. Mudcrutch Extended Play Live
Wow- Tom Petty’s lineup before the Heartbreakers is back and they are pumping out that good ol’ acid rock and roll. The Live Ep is better than the album itself- but even that is quite an achievement.
6. The Black Keys’ Attack And Release
Another really good one form those tire factory guys. Also check out their Live At The Crystal Ballroom DVD which is beautifully shot and the crowd is Loving it.
7. Arlan Feiles’ Come Sunday Morning
A great Americana record!
8. The Strange Boys (Random Myspace EPs)
The Strange Boys are just that- Strange. No physical cd releases except sold out 7″ records. Yes that breaks the usual “release date” rules but but who cares. You can buy tracks from them at Myspace. I bought random tracks there mid-year after catching their gig at Emo’s in Austin. These kids are Hazy Acid Garage Rock N Roll with squeaked out vocals. I love it and they are one of my favorite new bands of ‘08.
9. Megapuss’ Surfing
Megapuss is Devendra Banhart and some other Hummus eating Duck guy and some other guy from The Strokes….I Think. lol
Take a hit and then crack up to this very bizarre, funny and trippy record.
10. Howlin’ Rain’s Magnificent Fiend
This CD is a Great Mellow Listen from that Comets On Fire guy! EXCELLENT Live.
If you are easily offended do not read this post.
Tractor Trailer was a project that Dave Ostrager and I started yeaarrrs ago…like a decade ago. Now there’s some other bar band called Tractor Trailer, so we switched up our name now that new friends have jumped on ship And to avoid any confusion between groups. I am in the process of writing lyrics for the upcoming “Revenge Of The Tractor Trailers” Record, Tentatively Titled “Greatest Tits”… In the coming New Year a few of the crew will be getting together to start laying down vocals, fuzzed out loud punk… and for sure some Weird space jams. If you were at the The Something Grizzley gig where we broke out “Clerkstore F*ckwad (I Want Revenge)” and you liked it, you will be VERY Happy with the new tunes. Some new titles are “The Wheels On The Plane Go, Shut The F*ck Up,” “Chicken Face,” “I’m Bored (Out Of My F*cking Mind),” “Ponie Macaronie (Why So Sad),” “Zombie Holocaust Hunters Unite,” and a slammin’ Country-Western Jam called “Tryin’ To Find My Baby (On The ‘69 Trail).” Maybe we’ll even throw in a Reeaallly strange cover of Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves Of London.” 13 year old boys, drunk college kids, psychedelic slackers and fans of Ween should LOVE this. NOT for Lesbians or Grandmothers. Musicians include: Dave Ostrager on Vocals and Guitar; Kenta Sakakibara on Bass, Jaw Harp and Strange Noises; Adam Stein on Vocals and Guitar; Emory Hardy on the Drum set; And I’m really hoping to get Psychedelic guitar Freak and vocalist David “Gargantula” Gargano; With his brother, Steve “Stevie G” Gargano on Keys and Vocals for a few “key” tracks! Very exciting Kids, very exciting!!!
