2009
Wow. I realized it has been a while since my last post. I have literally been non-stop. This year is looking very promising. I bought sooo many great records so far and almost everything is top notch.
Here’s a few guaranteed great spins for your head:

Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears: Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is!
This record kicks so much ass. It’s soooo funky James Brown has to be dancing in his grave when this plays. It’s one of those records that gets you dancing around the house like a madman. Fun note: Someone named Josh Levy plays Baritone Saxaphone!

The Low Anthem: Oh My God, Charlie Darwin
Wow. If you are a fan of The Band or CSNY you will LOVE this record. If you buy the limited Edition numbered silkscreened package directly from their website you can download the album mp3s for free to keep busy while you wait for its fast delivery.
Neil Young: Fork In The Road
Uncle Neil has done it again! yeahhhh. This is the greatest, crunchiest, most-cohesive record he has made since Ragged Glory. If you like road songs and Neil Young, what’s to lose?

Black Lips: 200 Million Thousand
Just when I thought I was getting bored with these kids, they bust out another record of fun timeless garage pop! The cover art is a kid with braces or a witch…who knows. The album is a great spin.

Les Claypool: Of Fungi And Foe
M-M-M-M-Mushroom Men. This one will have you bouncing everywhere and it’s quite intense. If you eat mushrooms before listening to this album you’ll probably “bug-the-f*ck-out”. The Colonel is just crazy on this release.

The Strange Boys: …And Girls Club
Last year, after catching these kids live down in Austin, I hailed these kids as the next big thing. A recent write-up in Rolling Stone gives these kids their dew. Fuzzed-out, acid, garage, pop and squeaky coming of age vocals. I just LOVE this record.

Grateful Dead: Road Trips 2.2 Carousel Ballroom 2-14-1968
This is the shit. Primordial Medicated Pig Pen Goo. This is my favorite period of the Grateful Dead and if you buy this order this 2 disc set now it comes with a bonus disc that smokes.

Pearl Jam: Ten (Remixed)
Brendan O’ Brien really did a great job remixing this classic. Back in the day I wore through 3 cassette tapes of Ten. I played it all day long over and over. For years I hadn’t listened just ‘cause I over did it…But now its fun again to recapture the album that started it all, with fresh ears.

These are my favorite Records of this year! They may be completely different than most Best Of Lists for this year. Sometimes I feel like I live on a different planet. I seriously hope you give these a spin if you missed em!
1. Love As Laughter’s Holy
We play this record daily. It’s a well written, psychedelic feel good album. Did people seriously overlook this gem? I cannot believe that this isn’t on everyones top ten lists. Its never too late to pick it up now!

Love As Laughter: Holy
2. AC/DC’s Black Ice
I have listened to this album around 90 times now. It holds up as one of the best, most diverse AC/DC Records! Best Brian Johnson AC/DC since Back In Black.

AC/DC Black Ice Deluxe
3. Buffalo Killers’ Let It Ride
Wow! What a record- This is a PERFECT recording if you love southern classic psychedelic rock. I highly recommend buying this album immediately!

Buffalo Killers' Let It Ride
4. Mudhoney’s The Lucky Ones
Great Mudhoney Record. This one took a good week to grow on me but the songs are classic and they hold up great in a Live setting. Mudhoney is just one of the greatest bands of all time. It blows my mind that they aren’t selling out MSG next to Pearl Jam and that sooo many people still don’t know who they are.

Mudhoney's The Lucky Ones
5. Mudcrutch Extended Play Live
Wow- Tom Petty’s lineup before the Heartbreakers is back and they are pumping out that good ol’ acid rock and roll. The Live Ep is better than the album itself- but even that is quite an achievement.

Mudcrutch Extended Play Live
6. The Black Keys’ Attack And Release
Another really good one form those tire factory guys. Also check out their Live At The Crystal Ballroom DVD which is beautifully shot and the crowd is Loving it.

The Black Keys’ Attack and Release
7. Arlan Feiles’ Come Sunday Morning
A great Americana record!

8. The Strange Boys (Random Myspace EPs)
The Strange Boys are just that- Strange. No physical cd releases except sold out 7″ records. Yes that breaks the usual “release date” rules but but who cares. You can buy tracks from them at Myspace. I bought random tracks there mid-year after catching their gig at Emo’s in Austin. These kids are Hazy Acid Garage Rock N Roll with squeaked out vocals. I love it and they are one of my favorite new bands of ‘08.

the strange boys
9. Megapuss’ Surfing
Megapuss is Devendra Banhart and some other Hummus eating Duck guy and some other guy from The Strokes….I Think. lol
Take a hit and then crack up to this very bizarre, funny and trippy record.

Megapuss Surfing
10. Howlin’ Rain’s Magnificent Fiend
This CD is a Great Mellow Listen from that Comets On Fire guy! EXCELLENT Live.
